The brief

Smith's Ranch has been showing movies under the desert sky since 1956. A landmark like that needed its heritage to translate online: what's playing this week, what's at the snack bar, how to book a private event, and the story of a community institution. And it all had to stay easy to keep current, week after week.

What we built

  • Retro-modern brand treatment. A filmstrip mark, high-contrast black and white, and vintage-inspired signage balanced against a clean contemporary layout.
  • Built around a weekly rhythm. Now Showing and Coming Soon sections designed to be refreshed in minutes, because a theater site that shows last week's movies is a dead site.
  • Snack bar, front and center. Hot dogs, fresh popcorn, candy, and snow-cones with a pre-order flow that feeds concession revenue.
  • Wix, on purpose. The platform was a deliberate choice so the theater team updates showtimes and menus themselves, no developer required.
  • Community woven in. Support Our Supporters partnerships, private event booking, and the 1956 story that makes the venue more than a screen.

Why it works

Local entertainment lives on freshness. The design honors seventy years of heritage, but the real craft decision was operational: choosing the tool that keeps the site alive in the owner's hands. Platform is a strategy decision, not a default.

We build hand-coded cinematic sites when perception is the product, and lean self-service builds when weekly updates matter most. The craft is knowing which one the business needs.

In the client's words

"As always, excellent work done on time with extra attention to detail. Yousef always makes sure to under promise and over deliver."

Frequently asked

A retro Americana web experience for a drive-in running since 1956: weekly Now Showing and Coming Soon sections, a snack bar menu with pre-orders, private event booking, and community partnerships.
Why was the site built on Wix?+
Deliberately. The theater team updates showtimes and menus themselves every week with no developer needed. Platform is a strategy decision: hand-coded when perception is the product, self-service when freshness matters most.
Who keeps the site up to date?+
The theater team does, in minutes per week. The build was designed around that operational reality, because a theater site showing last week's movies is a dead site.
